Search Engine Submission, Is it Necessary?

The simple answer is no – search engine submission isn’t necessary. Major search engines nowadays (most notably Google) crawl and index pages by crawling links. Applying that logic, a single inbound link of any already-indexed page will identify your website to the engine. Consequently, if that page links to other pages within your site, they will also be indexed… and so on.

For this reason, inbound linking is very important. In fact, acquiring back-links may be the most important of SEO. In theory, the website owner shouldn’t have to ’scout’ or ‘hunt’ for links. If the generated content is of interest, useful, and necessary, there is a natural tendency among web users to link to information. This is the basis for the Google PageRank algorithm.

With all due respect, search engine submission to major search engine by submitting your site to Google and Bing can’t hurt. Additionally, it only entails about 5 minutes of additional work assuming you only submit to the major search engines. And once is enough… you don’t need to resubmit your site more than once. It doesn’t benefit or get your site crawled any quicker or more often.

It should be noted that submitting your site to Google, Bing, and many others don’t cost a fee. Many SEO agency assert that you need to pay to be indexed. That isn’t the case, and I would stay away from these businesses.

Search Engine Submission Options

Sitemaps are an excellent way to tell search engine like Google and Bing about URLs on your website that would be otherwise hard to discover by a web crawler. There are various formats you can use as Sitemaps to submit to search engines.

What is “XML sitemap”?

Placing a formatted XML file including site map on your webserver, you enable Search Engine crawlers (like Google) to discover out what pages are present and the ones that have recently changed and to crawl your site respectively.

Creat your sitemap online in 3 simple steps

  1. Go to https://www.xml-sitemaps.com and enter your full website URL and some optional parameters in the form below.
  2. Press ‘Start’ button and wait until the site to be completely crawled.
  3. You will be then redirected to the generated sitemap details page, including the number of pages indexed, broken links list, XML file content, and link to the sitemap file. Download the sitemap file using that link and put it into the domain root folder of your site.

After successfully creating a sitemap for your website, the sitemap needs to be submitted to major search engines manually. That article will present users with information and steps one should follow to submit the Sitemap to any search engine sites. Submitting your sitemap to Google Search Counselor and Bing Webmaster is worth it and does not take much time.

Submitting Sitemaps to Google

To submit your sitemap to Google

  1. The first step is to verify the site. Google will not accept any sitemap without approving the site it is designated for initially.
  2. Sign in to Google Webmaster Tools just like you log in into other Google features.
  3. Press “Add a Site” and provide the URL to Google site in the pop-up box. Then press continue.
  4. On the page that opens afterward, select the radio button right after “Add Meta Tag.”
  5. Copy the Meta tag from the instructions box. We’ll use this later.
  6. Open a new tab in the browser and open the site you wish to verify.
  7. Press “More Actions” and click “Manage the Site” from the list.
  8. Click the General from the tabs which are located right under Site Setting tab.
  9. Now the Meta tag copied from the instructions box should be posted in the place right next to Verification.
  10. Save the changes.
  11. Go to Webmaster Tools where the Meta tag was copied from.
  12. Press Verify.

Our second step is to submit the sitemap to Google.

  1. Go to Webmaster Tools site.
  2. Select the site of the sitemap.
  3. Click Site Configuration-> Sitemaps.
  4. Click Add/Test Sitemap which is located in the top right corner.
  5. In the box that pops up, paste the following code:
    /system/feeds/sitemap
  6. Submit the sitemap.

The sitemap is now successfully submitted.
